I never met an atheist before I met myself. I understood the concept, but I never really knew anyone. Only when I did become one did I seek out others who were.

I was more agnostic when I met an atheist. He and some other online communities such as PZ Myer's showed me that it was okay to be an atheist, I didn't need to be afraid. I still came to grips with atheism myself, but to see these online communities helped me a lot.
